These are all empty and there are more scattered throughout the room.
and yesterday I bought 20 plastic shoe boxes.
Is there a support group for this?!!?! Is there a hotline? Or am I destined to purchase boxes, caddies, and buckets because they are on sale?
I worked on organizing and cleaning from around 11-6pm today.
It feels good!
I plan on working tomorrow up there too!
While I was feeling good about the straightening and purging- I did have to have a moment of silence as I said goodbye to a few friends:
"Dear Strange and Sometimes Freaky Squirrels,
Once again we have had another wonderful year. You have continued to serve as decorations and constant reminders that I am NUTS. You all did a great job of welcoming in our awkward garden friend. While he is large, he will protect you this summer since you will all be living in this tiny drawer. See ya next Year !
Love, Miss Squirrels"
And then I closed the drawer and did a happy dance:)
I took a few other pictures- I don't think I have ever shown the way I organize the extra crayons:
If your soap box (really, I use the little travel soap boxes) is missing a red
you go on over and grab one.
If you find a red, you go over and put it in the correct drawer.
These are the smaller of the Sterilite drawers.
My thought process was- put two colors together that are easy to visually separate.
I used to use one of those caddies from Highlights- but even though the cup was red, they were putting in all kinds of colors! And on top of that there were only 8 cups- no place for peach, pink, gray, or white.
You might be wondering- there are only 12 colors here...where are the other 4-12 colors that came in the box...I pull them out. We don't use them. Then we make something with them later in year (candles, other crayon shapes, wax paper butterflies, stained glass pictures )...so the scarlets, indigos, blue-greens, and red violets do not circulate...
---------------------ME!-------------------------
The MR was flipping channels earlier tonight.
There was "NOTHING" on.
I suggested he read a book- but I was blog stalking" so I couldn't get too judgy.
He suggested that we make our own reality TV show.
I am currently working on the story board for it.
I would watch it.
I think our life is hilarious!
But then I thought:
Is it "reality TV" when you get someone else to play your part?
If that isn't acceptable- then we have hold off production until I
lose some weight,
get some extensions,
some highlights,
a tan,
possibly contacts,
and a pair of booty shorts.
I will also start enrolling Chickadee in pageants and dance.
The boys are going to have to start participating in some extreme sports.
We are going to have to move in a few more wives (I hope they like "kitchen").
The MR will have to start whispering to house pets and setting traps for large reptiles.
I am thinking he will also have to go to prison...that will make for some dramatic scenes.
Chickadee is also going to learn how to pierce peoples faces and give tattoos.
And somewhere in there, I would make it my life's mission to rescue and relocate wayward squirrels.
Would you watch? Would you TiVo us?
I just need to think of a catchy name.....hmm.....
Unrelated, but just as awesome-
In two weeks I will be ONE YEAR SMOKE FREE-
At the current price of "smokes" I have saved a little over $1800.00
So....
guess what my prize is-
a ticket for an airplane (I aint got time to take a fast train....)
By myself!
I can't wait! I don't have the deets yet- but it is going to be freakin' awesome!!!!!
More pictures of the clean up and "the store" tomorrow:)
Congrats on being smoke free!!!

Second In Line
You know I'm proud of you for being smokeless....what a gift you've given yourself and everybody {including us bloggy friends} else!!!!!
ReplyDeleteYou would cringe. I mean seriously cringe if you came into my room and saw how NOT organized I am compared to you....is it bad that I don't even have the desire?!?! Don't get me wrong - I have a tidy classroom {most of the time} and to be organized is lovely and really makes me happy. But right now, at the end of the school year, I just want outta dodge...

LOL! I love the little squirrels in the drawer! Congrats on the smoke-free life! Now you can spend more money on cute containers! And at TpT!
ReplyDeletewww.mrswheelerfirst.blogspot.com
What's wrong with collecting extra containers? Is that really an issue? If so, I'm going to refuse to believe it!! ;) Congrats on your one year achievement!!

Hi Staci,
ReplyDeleteI found your blog through another blog and have been reading all your old posts for the last week or so. Now I'm kind of sad because I can't read as much as I want anymore and have to wait for you to write new stuff... I hope you will do that a lot, because I have a habbit of reading all new blog posts before I start my at-home-school-work and if there aren't any (I'm a little picky with my reading list) I have a hard time starting the work.
I live and teach in Germany and am amazed how similar and diffrent our work can be... For example do you have to put all your things in cabinets or clossets or take it home at the end of the year?
On the other hand: I collect boxes and containers as well and am really jealous of your collection!
Keep writing! I love it!
Lisa
Hi Lisa! Do you teach in a German school or in an American school on a military base?? We lived in Germany for 3 years when my husband was stationed there and we are thinking of requesting to go back, but I'm not sure how the on-base schools are to work at! Germany was a lot of fun!
DeleteJennifer @ Herding Kats In Kindergarten
Hi Jennifer,
DeleteI'm German, so I work at a regular German school and I can't really tell you anything about the on-base schools.
Where did you live? From what I heard there are a lot of cutbacks and many bases are closing. I work and live right now in the Heidelberg and Mannheim area but am originally from aroud Frankfurt.
I'm glad you liked it here ;)
Lisa
That is an awesome way to celebrate being smoke free!
ReplyDeleteI love storage containers, too. I was just looking in a catalog at some. Seriously.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on 1 year!
Yes, I would watch your show. It's reality. So yes, I would.
Keep us posted on where you go!
A Teeny Tiny Teacher
If you find a local meeting for container savers anonymous, please let me know OR if you find a benefactor who can help buy my containers that would be nice too =) I do the same thing with my crayons! Same little containers but I have enough for individual drawers.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the not smoking! Trying to get my hubby to quit.
And I would SOOO totally watch a reality show of the Squirrels!

Kinder Kraziness
Hmmm, never thought to isolate my crayons like that...I just have a caddie for each table and dump 5-6 boxes in each so they have to share. I thought I had a container addiction, but you have me beat!
ReplyDeleteI love your drawer full of squirrels - every time I see one now I think of you - I even bought some squirrel clipart the other day because of you lol!
I think you deserve an award for being smoke-free (since you didn't get one for the bubbles!) I am dying to know where you're going!

ReplyDeleteLove the reality show idea. Can I be your long lost friend with a strange addiction. I can come up with something good like snorting panko! :)
ReplyDeleteAlso congrats on the upcoming smoke free year. Where are you going to go?
Camille
I just found your blog through pinterest. I saw the pic of the drawers of crayons. I think I might try that as well.
ReplyDeleteDon't worry about your container addiction. I think most teachers, especially first grade ones, collect containers. My husband thought I was nuts when I came home with 20 shoe boxes to reorganize my classroom library. I had to hide the additional 15 that I needed to finish it!
Congrats on being smoke free. Keep up the good work!
Fun for First
buying yourself a plane ticket is a great incentive to show the benefits of quitting smoking. Nice job. I love your crayon organization. I might just try it at home too!

Oh my gosh I am totally STEALING the crayon idea. Genius.
ReplyDeleteAnd Yes I would tune in. You should call it Bounty Choppers.
So glad you bought that plane ticket!

I have been container addicted for many years!!! I'm so well known for it at my school that I once avoided telling a coworker hello in WalMart because my basket was filled with ...you guessed it, more containers! (but she caught me!!!)
ReplyDeleteI found your blog through pinterest. I love your organization! I am your newest follower and I am awarding several of the new blogs I am following with the Versatile Blogger award! Swing by my blog to check it out! I look forward to seeing all of your great ideas!
